Portrait of Shuchen

Shuchen Liu 刘淑琛

A trained visual artist bridging Chinese artistic traditions and European contemporary practice.

My name is Shuchen — I grew up immersed in the Chinese art tradition, studying techniques like Gongbi (meticulous brush painting) and ink wash from a young age. My training continued in France, where I expanded into Western methods of drawing, painting, and composition.

Now based in Delft, I bring these two worlds together. In my workshops, each session explores either a new material, technique, or concept — just as we did in the professional ateliers where I trained. Whether it's the precision of Gongbi brushwork or the freedom of expressive oil painting, I believe the best way to grow as an artist is through diverse, hands-on exploration.

My goal is simple: to create a warm, focused studio space where people of all levels can discover and develop their unique artistic voice.

Teaching Philosophy

"Art is not just about technique — it's about seeing, feeling, and expressing. Every session is an invitation to explore a new way of making."

In my workshops, I share the creative learning style I grew up with. Each session is designed around a specific focus — a technique, a medium, a concept — so that over time, students build a broad and confident artistic foundation. The structure is professional, but the atmosphere is warm and encouraging.

I believe deeply in the atelier model: small groups, personal attention, and the freedom to develop your own path within a guided framework. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced creator looking for new inspiration, there's a place for you here.
